Back & Neck Pain

Back & Neck Pain - Venice, FL

When you have pain and immobility in the back and neck, you need help regaining freedom of movement and freedom from pain. Venice Rehab can provide this help by restoring a level of activity, strength and motion to your back, neck and life that you didn’t think you could have.

As physical therapists with decades of combined experience, we use comprehensive hands-on techniques and proven modalities to treat back and neck pain caused by injury, illness and other conditions. By combining experienced care with our one-on-one, hands-on patient focus, we can help achieve better results for you. Our physical and occupational therapists will thoroughly evaluate your health and pain history.

This evaluation gives our physical therapists an understanding of how the pain evolved (a traumatic injury, a gradual injury or one that just appeared “out of the blue”), what positions make the pain better or worse and what types of daily activities you perform that may contribute to your pain.

After we complete this evaluation, we will check range of motion, flexibility, strength, posture and other points that may affect your pain experience and then create a customized treatment program based on our findings. Some of the therapies and modalities we use at Venice Rehab in Venice, Florida are:

Manual therapy – This specialized form of physical therapy is delivered by the hands instead of a device. The goal of manual therapy is to place pressure on muscle tissue and manipulate the joints in an effort to decrease pain caused by spasms, tension or joint dysfunction.

Lumbar stabilization – This form of therapy is designed to strengthen muscles to support your spine and help prevent low back pain.

TENS and electrical muscle stimulation – Electrical nerve and muscle stimulation methods may be used to treat pain and muscle spasms.

Free weights and exercise – Many of our patients benefit from multi-gym resistance machines and other exercise equipment to enhance flexibility and strength. We also have treadmills, recumbent bikes and steppers.

Ultrasound – This modality offers deep heating therapy for deep joint tissues and improves stretching and flexibility in connective tissue and hands. It is particularly effective for repetitive-stress injuries and inflammation. A related therapy is called phonophoresis. It uses the deep heating properties of ultrasound to deliver medication directly to an affected area or pain source.

Iontophoresis – This noninvasive treatment allows medication to be delivered through the skin to underlying tissues using a mild electrical current. This treatment is beneficial in that the part of the body that receives the medication is the part that needs it.

Interferential current – This treatment uses electrical current applied directly to the skin over a painful area or the spine. Two electrodes use low- to medium-frequency electrical currents to relax muscles, reduce pain and stimulate faster healing.

Because no two patients are the same, a specific back and neck pain treatment program may use one, two or several therapies or modalities to relieve pain and add flexibility and movement to your life.

So don’t let back or neck pain and lost mobility stop you from enjoying your life. Tell your doctor you want the caring, compassion and experience of Venice Rehab.
